In this video you will see the moment the sparrows nest goes into a predator alert. The chicks had just been fed by their mother when you can hear in the audio different bird calls and chirps. These calls intensify and the mom darts away and the chicks hunker down to hide. They flatten themselves as much as they can to hide from any possible predators. I am not sure what the disturbance was. There was another nest nearby and I am not sure if the chicks in that nest got raided or attacked. It was interesting how quickly the baby sparrow chicks picked up on the possible predator. These chicks are only a little over 10 days old.

Something is completely latched to the inside of the mouth in two chicks. Im not sure what it is but it seems to be very stuck, almost as if it is grabbing the side of the chicks mouths. The mother robin tries hard to detach them but has no success. She really tugs on them. Im not sure when they got stuck but they must have been from an earlier feeding. I could not find the exact time they were brought to the nest though. These things remained latched to the chicks mouths for hours. They were not completely gone until the next morning. I dont think they are leeches. Luckily over time they went away!

Here is 30 minutes of raw footage from the robins nest! This footage is from the evening 5 days after these chicks hatched. These 5 day old baby bird chicks are growing very fast. They require constant food to stay healthy. This is a particularly busy 30 minutes. The chicks are fed 6 times. Both the mother and father robin are collecting food and bringing it back to the nest. The chicks are able to go for longer periods without the mother brooding them. Youll see the mother finally decides to brood them at the end of the video. Enjoy!")

The American Robin is a member of the Thrush family of birds. It is found throughout North America. They breed in their summer range from April to August and usually have 2-3 clutches of chicks. The three baby bird chicks in this nest are 5 days old. They mainly feed on small insects, worms, caterpillars, and berries.
The mother and father birds forage constantly for the 5-day old chicks. Only the mother will brood the chicks to keep them warm. At 5-days old, these chicks are able to spend more time without their mother brooding them. This allows more food to be brought to the nest for these rapidly growing chicks! The chicks have not yet opened their eyes but this will happen within the next few days. They also only have slight fuzz on their bodies. You can hear them chirping when they get fed. Feathers will start to grow in the coming days as well.
