Talk recorded live at CERN on 17 November 2022 during the second edition of the Sparks! Serendipity Forum at CERN. #CERNSparks

One of the big challenges in biology is the shape of proteins. There are tens of millions of them and they all have individual shapes - researchers used to spend entire careers trying to predict the shape of a handful of them.
Then Artificial Intelligence came onto the scene - and now we can predict the shape of almost all proteins known to science. The company behind this feat, DeepMind, has been using a specific machine learning system called AlphaFOLD.

Ankur Vora is a Public Engagement Expert at Deepmind.
