A quick look at some satellite imagery and weather conditions associated with the Almeria deadly wildfire on 9 July. These latest deadly fires are out in the southeast of Spain and they developed extremely quickly in the afternoon of 9 July in dry hot and windy conditions during the heatwave and associated with an upper level low on the southwest side of the large heatwave blocking high. At the time of recording there are reports of 12 people killed by the fire and others missing. It is being reported as the most devastating fire to date in Andalusia in terms of fatalities. Victims were found dead in the small settlement of Bédar, with some of them discovered inside vehicles. Bedar is elevated at around 400 m altitude in tricky dry hilly terrain complicating firefighter's efforts.
