Look, I dislike Hughesnet as much as the next guy, but why’d it have to be Elon?
Starlink satellite internet services have dug so heavily into Hughesnet’s subscriber base that they just had to file for freaking Chapter 11 bankruptcy
Nearly a third of their staff was laid off, and as grim as that seems for the company, they DO claim to have a multi-year recovery plan to SOMEHOW be able to compete with the inordinate quality and coverage SpaceX is able to provide with Starlink
They’re gunning for government and defense contracts this time around while also maintaining their current consumer facing deals
And arguably the silver lining here is that nobody who’s currently a Hughesnet subscriber will be seeing a lapse in service - which is a good call from them, cause I guarantee that’d pretty much force whatever customers they have left directly into the big barrel-y arms of Mr. Musk
