This film is a response to the AI Slop and artificiality of art that has been plaguing our world.
The more people try to cheat the system, the more I want to lean into the real, tactile, physical world. Because I think that’s what we actually want.
A pottery film felt very fitting for this topic. The creativity is innately human, and the results are tangible.
The film came about when I learned my friend Jude was going to pottery residency on the Northern California Coast. The scenery was breathtaking, and the community growth through shared knowledge was lovely to witness.
Although I shot this film digitally, I leaned into the analog world by using vintage Canon FD lenses, with a lot shot on my new 35-70mm (which was sooo fun, and the flaring and characteristics were awesome). Most of the light was natural, but I stylized the pottery studio with a spotlight through the window.
