On July 26, 1972, Rockwell International won a $2.6 billion contract to build the space shuttle orbiter, designated OV-101 (orbiter vehicle 101). The Space Shuttle was the world's first reusable spacecraft, and the first spacecraft in history that could carry large satellites to and from orbit. The last shuttle, the Endeavour (OV-105), made its first flight, May 7, 1992.
