Recently implemented voice chat for Space Nerds in Space (still some kinks to work out, but kind of working) and in the process of testing out discovered that playing over the internet might work more or less fine after all. I was running a couple clients in Virginia with the server running in New York with reasonable latency (~25ms) and bandwidth usage of ~25 kilobytes per second per client if I "set npc_ship_count=100" and "set asteroid_count=0" on the demon screen and then "regenerate" and seemed more or less... totally playable? I am surprised.
