I’m sowing peas in early May — and if you’re wondering when to sow peas in the UK, this might actually be the perfect time 🌱
I meant to plant these earlier… but it turns out planting peas in May can work better than early spring. The soil is warmer, germination is quicker, and everything just gets going faster.
In this video, I’m sowing peas in real time (no perfection here) and sharing a simple, realistic approach to growing peas in the UK, including what actually matters — and what doesn’t.
🫘 Peas vs Beans (important if you’re planting both)
Peas are happy in cooler weather and can handle a bit of frost.
Beans? Not so much.
If you’re also wondering when to plant beans in the UK, I explain why it’s usually better to wait a bit longer — or start them indoors.
❄️ Late frost — should you worry?
Even in May, a late frost is still possible in the UK.
I’ll show you:
- when peas are actually at risk
- how to check if it’s safe to sow
- and the easiest way to protect young seedlings if temperatures drop
If you’ve been putting it off — this is your sign to just sow your peas and get started!
