In the end of 2021 Försti (guitar) and Wally (drums, vocals) were in the mood and got together to jam some Stoner/Doom tunes from Electric Wizard, Black Sabbath, Sleep etc. and hanging out from time to time. Genre-specific, they knew what they wanted. After some sessions and finding the right sound, they concentrated on writing their own songs - a few ideas got discarded.

Bit by bit, they extended their backline/equipment in the rehearsal room, because they needed to add more low-end to the guitar. In the end, there was a huge backline that drove their sound and they decided to not put in any bass-guitar as an instrument separately: they just wanted to make "guitar-only" music.

Later, their friend Jonny (lead guitar) joined the band at the end of 2022. Henceforth, the songs were rearranged and fine tuned. In August 2023 Vast Pyre opened for the Festival "Burgbrand Open Air" and shared the stage with bands like EREMIT and INDIAN NIGHTMARE, to name just a few. That should be the only concert they played that year, because first they wanted to record/mix their stuff, what they eventually did from November 2023 to February this year.

HELLGO - Worn Out (official single) /// Octopus Rising

Argonauta Records 2024-10-18 | Hellgo started up in 2020 from the ashes of Crtvtr and Naat as an instrumental trio. Soon they realized that their music would have been more complete adding a second guitar and vocals, so they did. Now they're a five-members band and they offer a massive dose of contaminated post-hc.

As celebration of this day, HELLGO are excited to reveal their first single "Worn Out":
"Worn Out is a hymn to desperation" says the band "This song is for the surrender, for the fearful. It's the cold embrace that reaches you when you're down. It's the last wound you cannot heal. So take off your smiling mask and quit acting like all is fine... None cares anyway."

Vita est Morte est Vita is the band’s debut full-length; recorded, mixed, and mastered by Wayne Adams at Bear Bites Horse Studio, London. DEEP VALLEY BLUES - Sangue e Veleno (official single) /// ARGONAUTA Records

Argonauta Records 2024-10-08 | Italian band Deep Valley Blues, known for their fusion of hard rock, blues, and psych rock infused with sludge and stoner vibes, have signed with Argonauta Records to release their fourth full-length album. To celebrate this signing, Deep Valley Blues unveils the first single, Sangue e Veleno, from their upcoming album.

Deep Valley Blues was born in 2016 from the idea of Umberto Arena, Giando Sestito, Giorgio Faini and Alessandro Morrone in Catanzaro. The band's attitude comes out with the first self-titled EP in 2017, a cluster of hard rock blues and psych rock with heavy sludge/stoner vibes that will set the parameters of the band's sound and open the door to the intense live activity that will be carried out over the years taking them from the south to the north of Italy. In 2019 the album "Demonic Sunset" is released, the bands first full-length and concept album, in which the project deals with a different psychosis for each song, using elements and references related to mass culture. These themes will also find space in the 2021 album "III - Third"; released on CD for "Swamp Records" and on cassette for "Sloomweep Productions," alongside songs with lighter themes, blues tributes and macabre chronicles.

In 2023, recordings were completed for the new record to be released by Argonauta Records: Sangue e Veleno (Blood And Poison), a very personal record that recalls the way of calling an angry person in Italy "poisoned" or by "poisoned blood."
The album is expected as a late Autumn release, with more details to be revealed soon.

Argonauta Records 2024-10-04 | Italian melodic alternative rock band REESE joins Octopus Rising for the release of their forthcoming new album!

First single and official music video for 'Long Streets' have been released today. "It’s an energetic up-tempo rock song with a powerful riff-based intro/verse and a melodic chorus". says the band. "The song is about the bitterness and disappointment for the absence of someone you needed during hard times. The streets dividing you and this person seem longer, even if the city you live in is always the same.

Reese are a melodic alternative rock band from Vicenza, a small town in Northeastern Italy. The band was founded in 2006 and definitely re-founded in 2010 after a one-year breakup.

In the early years the band performed at some local venues and released 3 self-produced EPs: “Just Human Words”, “View From The Tree” and “Under The Carpet”.

In 2014 Reese won some local contests and performed in Northern Italy, also opening for some artists of international fame.

After an intense live activity, the band recorded its first full-length album “Black Russian”, released on October 27th, 2017 via Sorry Mom! Records, featuring 5 singles and videoclips. The record was promoted with European gigs in Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, Latvia, and Lithuania.

In 2019 the band recorded its second full-length album “Dreaming Pieces”, an 11-track work which had to be out in 2020. However, the release date was postponed to April 22nd, 2022 due the pandemic, via Sorry Mom!/Artist First. Meanwhile, the band had released 4 singles and 3 videoclips from the album.
Both “Black Russian” and “Dreaming Pieces” were recorded and mixed by Andrea “Spazza” Rigoni at Produzioni Fantasma (Montecchio Maggiore, IT) and mastered by Alessio Garavello at Rogue Studios (London, UK).

In 2023 the band was busy in the making of its third full-length album “Long Streets”, which will be released in Autumn 2024.
The album was recorded both in English and Italian version, the latter with the alternative title “Lunghe Strade”.
The album was recorded, mixed and mastered by Andrea “Spazza” Rigoni at Haunted Studios in Castelgomberto (IT). Michele Luppi took care of the reamp of the vocal tracks at MiLu’s RockLab II in Fabbrico (IT).

The sound of Reese is based on a solid, energetic and melodic alternative rock. Throughout the various releases, the band tried to refine arrangements, melodies and songwriting’s fluency.
The lyrics are mostly about personal themes and are considerations on some aspects of real life like death and illness of loved ones, fear of change, desire to break out of the daily routine.

Argonauta Records 2024-09-26 | Polish stoner/desert rock band MAW has signed with Argonauta Records to release their second full-length album in early 2025. Today, the band also presents the first single and official music video for 'Red Sea' (Lyric by Jacek Niewiadomski).

MAW is a Polish band formed in Cracow in 2019 and influenced by the 90’ Palm Desert scene.
The band says: "Back in the days, after two months of loud and heavy riffs-based jams, we started writing songs and playing gigs. In late summer 2019, we decided to record some tracks at Vintage Record Studio. Three-day trip from Cracow to Poznan in November 2019 ended up with six tracks being recorded. Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 pandemic release and promotion of our debut album plans were postponed. Finally, it was released in January 2021, more than one year after recording. During the pandemic lockdown in the summer of 2020, drummer Michal Gawronski left the band and his place took Szymon Piotrowski. Currently, we are working on new, fresh, groovy material, which will be released early next year, with the current and new singer Jacek Niewiadomski".

Although MAW were born of a need to play massive stoner/desert riffs, they quickly incorporate some of members' common inspirations. You can hear drives of Color Haze or Causa Sui, the energy of Down and Alabama Thunderpussy with some Sleep-ish layers. But what is most important is that you can hear Maw in the first place.

Argonauta Records 2024-09-19 | Spain's rising stoner rock band, Big Muff Brigade, has signed with Argonauta Records and is excited to release their first single and music video, 'Lost in a Canyon'.

Big Muff Brigade is a stoner-rock band from Basque Country (Spain). Aitor Granadero (vocals), Joseba Martínez (bass) and Mikel Becerra (guitar) started this project at the beginning of the year 2023. David Fernández (guitar) and Manu Forte (drums) joined the band a few months later.

In just three months, the five members found such a high level of complicity that they quickly composed their first full-length album and started to perform concerts.

Their sound is based on the most rocking part of the stoner, always accompanied by the power of sabbathian riff, seventies drums and voices in the purest grunge style coming from Seattle.

Epic Down is a duo from Leipzig, Germany dedicated to the sluggish grooves and lumbering riffs of sludge & doom. Founded in the pandemic turmoil of the year 2021, by Mitzschi (guitar(s)/bass) and Fabian (drums/vocals) to musically express the deeply felt horror about the excesses of the established abysses of a consumerist civilization with pronounced destructive traits and a reality marked by war, disease and destruction, and to preserve it as a defining sound of this so-called turn of the times. We also wanted to have a shredding solo at the end which was not in the original. We created a riff to go behind it. We wanted that riff to slowly fade to give the listener time to reflect."

The story behind the album:
The Magazine is first of all a word play with the Italian translation “La Rivista”, in fact, the word “rivista” has many meanings:
- The magazine is intended as a publication related to a specific field (ex. Fashion, art, music etc...)
- In military use, inspection by a superior to check the order of individual elements or departments. For us, it is the inspection of our own capabilities, of our mood, of our fears.
- Variety show which, in the once most widespread and popular form, consists of a series of attraction numbers in which the comedian, the soubrette and the dance troupe have a predominant role. Music as we intend it is more than just sound, it’s about the expression and energy of live exhibitions, and the comic shadow that always follows the tragic events we go through in our lives.

Secondly, this is a concept album, a story that follows the journey of a man who wins a golden ticket for a trip through his own multiverse.

The journey begins with Brain Cream, in which the protagonist is trying to evade the chaos of everyday life. He’s overwhelmed by the constant stream of stimuli and as soon as he grabs hold of the golden ticket, he knows that it’s his chance for escaping. He’s conscious, however, that he won’t be able to see the world he’s leaving while it grows and changes, maybe into a better version of itself.

In Apricot Sorrow we find out that he’s been launched into his last reality, the one in which he already lived all the other realities he has yet to go through, so he can clearly see his path and all his different lives. The ones he despises and the ones he misses. The only question that still stands is WHY? He’ll need to find a sense for all his future voyages.

The Saving and The Craving drag him through a reality of struggle and addiction, in which he first tries to find redemption just for him to fall again in his old, dark habits. He’s not yet capable of dealing with his problems and instead tries to avoid them, seeking refuge in the warmth of a dose. Right as he’s about to end his life he asks for forgiveness one last time, as he has not yet found the right answers.

The Butcher of Grangaisbrook is the proud adaptation of a local legend from our valley, it’s a tale of vengeance, in which our protagonist tries to find the answer to his grievance in the blade of an axe. His inevitable folly will be the only answer birthing from his atrocious sentiments.
Icahipi is the realisation that he’s living a cycle, he’s not going in the right direction but, as during his life, he’s still doing the same mistakes, like a snake that bites his tail, like the circular motion of a blender.

In Samsara he tries to break out. While traveling through the desert of his soul, the protagonist sees the sky twirling, telling him to get away from this never-ending motion in which he’s trying to flee a dying world just to find a new one to kill, again. He’s trying to find a solution to go forward, a new beginning.

In Spread Love Around he finally reaches His answer. For him, the meaning of his journey becomes being able to care for someone other than himself, to share thoughts and emotions, so that in that room where he started alone and full of grief, he’s now with someone he loves. He can finally enjoy the apricot without remorse or nostalgia. He’s happy and he finally feels it.

Finnish Doom Metal band Sarajah was formed by guitarist J.H. to play Heavy Metal in the vein of the old masters Black Sabbath, Trouble and Saint Vitus. It was crucial to bring forth themes of nature and mythology strongly rooted in Nordic culture. The name Sarajah refers to a great mythical sea in the north. Vocalist Magus Corvus and drummer H. Wizzard joined the band in 2020. They both also play in Doom Metal band Fimir. The lineup was completed in 2021 when bassist and guitarist Jeff Pekkilä joined the band. The band entered Electric Fox Studios in early 2023 to record a debut album. The album features 8 songs with heavy guitars, pounding drums and strong bass. "New Light is about trying to see things in a new way when everything feels upside down and confusing. To me, the song also feels open somehow, both musically, sonically and lyrically. Especially when Gary's guitar comes in after the two first verses I feel like a new opening of light and dreams is happening, which really fits with the whole idea of the song." - says Pia.

Having played and written music for most of her life and always played in bands a solo project was been brewing in Pia's mind for a long time until she started her solo endeavour in 2021. Her debut album Distorted Chants was released in 2022 followed by the ep Burning Time early 2024, both on Italian label Argonauta Records.

Her solo music is rooted in slow heavy drones but also has a lighter, dreamy and hopeful side. Her riffs are slow, heavy and minimalistic and her vocals dreamy and haunting.

On the new album Pia has worked more with layers of vocal harmonies and has given an old dark sounding nylon acoustic guitar more space in her massive distorted soundscape. In addition to singing she plays bass, riff guitars and mini- malistic guitar leads while Gary Arce (Yawning Man, Fatso Jetson, Big Scenic Nowhere, Ten East etc) plays additional guitar melodies on six of the album's eight songs. The drums are played by Ole Teigen (Superlynx etc) who also record- ed, mixed and produced the album with Pia co-producing at Crowtown Recordings.

Pia's lyrics are always personal and honest. She wrote Dissolve at a time where a lot of major things in her own life, but also in the world, changed, were uncertain and seemed to dis- solve. Dissolvement is a recurring theme in the songs, but so is the idea of moulding things back together in a new form. As Pia often writes what she needs to hear herself, and needs to tell her- self, in her lyrics she wonders if there are others out there needing to hear similar things. On this album she is trying to create hope that no matter how scary major changes and the unknown is it can also be an opportunity for new and better ways and ideas.

In addition to her solo project Pia has spent a decade playing bass and doing vocals in heavy psych band Superlynx and recently started the new project SoftSun with Gary Arce and Dan Joeright (Earth Moon Earth, The Rentals etc).

In the end of 2021 Försti (guitar) and Wally (drums, vocals) were in the mood and got together to jam some Stoner/Doom tunes from Electric Wizard, Black Sabbath, Sleep etc. and hanging out from time to time. Genre-specific, they knew what they wanted. After some sessions and finding the right sound, they concentrated on writing their own songs - a few ideas got discarded. Bit by bit, they extended their backline/equipment in the rehearsal room, because they needed to add more low-end to the guitar. In the end, there was a huge backline that drove their sound and they decided to not put in any bass-guitar as an instrument separately: they just wanted to make "guitar-only" music. Later, their friend Jonny (lead guitar) joined the band at the end of 2022. Henceforth, the songs were rearranged and fine tuned. In August 2023 Vast Pyre opened for the Festival "Burgbrand Open Air" and shared the stage with bands like EREMIT and INDIAN NIGHTMARE, to name just a few. That should be the only concert they played that year, because first they wanted to record/mix their stuff, what they eventually did from November 2023 to February this year.

Pia about the single: “The first single Dissolve is the title track and I guess it tries to capture the feeling of falling apart but also holding on to the pieces of your- self for when the time comes that you feel able to start putting them back together. Knowing that they won't fit the same way they used to, but maybe a different way could be even better. Musically I wanted the song to catch a heavy sad feeling but also a lot of hopefulness.“

Having played and written music for most of her life and always played in bands a solo project was been brewing in Pia's mind for a long time until she started her solo endeavour in 2021. Her debut album Distorted Chants was released in 2022 followed by the ep Burning Time early 2024, both on Italian label Argonauta Records.

Her solo music is rooted in slow heavy drones but also has a lighter, dreamy and hopeful side. Her riffs are slow, heavy and minimalistic and her vocals dreamy and haunting.
On the new album Pia has worked more with layers of vocal harmonies and has given an old dark sounding nylon acoustic guitar more space in her massive distorted soundscape. In addition to singing she plays bass, riff guitars and mini- malistic guitar leads while Gary Arce (Yawning Man, Fatso Jetson, Big Scenic Nowhere, Ten East etc) plays additional guitar melodies on six of the album's eight songs. The drums are played by Ole Teigen (Superlynx etc) who also record- ed, mixed and produced the album with Pia co producing at Crowtown Recordings.

Pia's lyrics are always personal and honest. She wrote Dissolve at a time where a lot of major things in her own life, but also in the world, changed, were uncertain and seemed to dis- solve. Dissolvement is a recurring theme in the songs, but so is the idea of moulding things back together in a new form. As Pia often writes what she needs to hear herself, and needs to tell her- self, in her lyrics she wonders if there are others out there needing to hear similar things. On this album she is trying to create hope that no matter how scary major changes and the unknown is it can also be an opportunity for new and better ways and ideas.

In addition to her solo project Pia has spent a decade playing bass and doing vocals in heavy psych band Superlynx and recently started the new project SoftSun with Gary Arce and Dan Joeright (Earth Moon Earth, The Rentals etc).

Two years after releasing their self-titled debut album, Boston “garage prog” five-piece we broke the weather sit in a place far above what they imagined when they began jamming in a basement as strangers with no musical agenda in 2018. Critics and fans alike have praised the band for their bold fusion of disparate genres and influences - progressive rock, jazz fusion, psych rock, math rock, stoner rock, doom metal, and beyond - and while few seem to know how to actually categorize them, they agree that wbtw are onto something special.

we broke the weather features two multi-instrumentalists - Nick Cusworth and Scott Wood - who share vocal duties, play sax, and key/synth and guitar, respectively. Taken with drummer and third vocalist Andrew Clark, the band finds every opportunity to insert bits of jazz, math-y trickiness, and general skronk into a rock framework. Lead guitarist Kevin DiTroia injects the group with a necessary amount of raw energy to balance out what could easily become something stuffy and fussy, and rounding things out is bassist/guitarist/synth wizard Steve Muscari to keep things weird.

Musically, the album distills the most interesting aspects of their self-titled and pushes them in new directions. Lead single “Marionette” is a relentless head-banger that traipses through sax and guitar-led mathy prog riffs, flamenco-infused psychedelic landscapes, and cosmically heavy stoner grooves. Elsewhere, album opener “Vestige” is epic in every meaning of the word, as it takes the listener on a voyage through dark and twisting chords and melodies, a miasma of synth and djent-leaning guitars, and resolves on a triumphant fuzzed out bass riff and ripping guitar solo. But at the end of the day, they’re just a group of 5 guys with wives, kids, and jobs who are most likely yelling into the void and are just trying to have some fun while doing so. The Dutch Desert-rockers of Drive By Wire offer you an intriguing and unique mixture of fuzz-laden heavy stoner rock grooves accompanied by the trippy, hazy vocals of charismatic front lady Simone Holsbeek.

Simone Holsbeek and lead guitarist Alwin Wubben founded the band in Deventer (2006) writing songs in their basement for the debut album that immediately grabbed the attention of the international press. With Marcel Zerb on bass and Ingmar Regeling behind the drumkit, they are capable of building sonic mountains and psychedelic tapestries of sound.

“Time Horizon” is the band's 5th album and the follow-up from the release of the highly acclaimed last album “Spellbound” (2018) which was very well received by both international press and fans. "We are DISLIMN, a quite unusual three-piece Prog Doomgaze with Nordic music influences. We discovered the label after seeing one of their resident artists, Witchorious, performing at the Supersonic, in Paris. We immediately connected with their artistic direction and their way of communication. Band comments on the single:
"Anxiety" is the first track on our EP. With this track, we wanted to highlight the place anxiety can take in a person's daily life. We've composed and wrote it as a constant evolution, as if Anxiety's process of manipulation was divided into several stages. Here, we've personified anxiety, giving it a voice. It hides its true nature, only to fully reveal itself at the end of the track, underlining the fact that Esmee (our main character) has no reason to exist in this world whatsoever..

We've produced the clip with the same spirit. We've edited the video shots so that they are getting shorter and shorter, building a tension that is contributing to the anxious feeling that we want to communicate to the viewer. We really wanted to make them understand that Esmee (Here performed by Juline Thibaut) is losing the battle, losing control until giving up to anxiety, which is the reason why, at the end of the video, she is the one saying the last sentence "You don't belong here", as if anxiety was speaking in her stead.

Our singer, Alix, is battling anxiety attacks and generalized anxiety every day. She wanted, like therapy, to free herself from this weight by expressing her feelings and putting words about what she is going through with these crises. For her, anxiety is like a person who lives inside her and dictates her thoughts."

With a rich musical experience and hungry for more, Alix, Basile and Florent joined forces in 2022 to form DISLIMN. The project’s soundscape melds the hypnotic resentment of progressive, heavy rock and doom with the nebulous nuances of Scandinavian melodies. The guitars provide a solid ground, mixing power with finesse, relying on catchy riffs and repetitive grooves. The rhythmic anchor, combining drums and percussion, creates a strong support, mentoring through the musical universe of this first EP. To pierce this instrumental plateau, the percussive, melodious vocals invite on a journey between revolt and resilience, while merging styles.

The point of “Kain & Abel” is that good and evil will always fight each other. This is how they keep each other alive and ensure that they - good and evil - will always exist.
The main riff of the song was written years ago when bassist and co-founder Gerald was still alive. After his death it was a matter of heart for the rest of the band to take that riff and create a new song around it that Gerald would have liked. So it's heavy, it's simple but intense and it's meant to be played loud. The audience loved it at Transonic Science's live shows and the band was very happy to be able to transfer the song’s energy to the recording.

Transonic Science, pioneers of the German stoner rock scene since 1997, have left an indelible mark on the music landscape. Emerging from the void, Liljevars Brann is the brainchild of vocalist and composer Sjelvindur, alongside the accomplished drummer Kristjan. These longstanding comrades, with a history of crafting extreme music spanning decades, united to form this nature-inspired, mystical black metal project in early 2021.

Liljevars Brann's musical voyage draws inspiration from the spiritual potency of early visionaries like Ulver, The 3rd and the Mortal and the Swedish Prog Rock legends, Landberk. Their sonic narrative is further enriched by a distinct individual essence.

Their inaugural album, "Helja Kor," a remarkable creation composed and recorded within a mere eight weeks in the spring of 2021, weaves a tapestry of an unfamiliar language, its meaning unfurling through pure sound, adding an enigmatic allure.

KING OF NONE is a stoner rock group from Helsinki, Finland. Formed in 2013, their signature sound fuses heavy riffs and raspy vocals with progressive elements and psychedelic soundscapes. The band retains all its original members from its inception: Miiro Kärki (vocals), Patrick Enckell (drums), Juho Aarnio (bass), Aleksi Kärkkäinen (guitar) and Juha Pääkkö (guitar). Dionize - (Pronounced dye-a-nyze; Rhymes with Dying Eyes)

Adam Farr, better known by his stage name Dionize, is a New Zealand singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. As a solo artist, Dionize makes stoner/sludge metal with influences of Groove Metal, Prog and Psychedelia; Which he dubs “Loner Metal”.

In the studio, Dionize writes, records, and performs all instruments on the majority of his work.
As a live act, Dionize is a four piece band consisting of some of Auckland’s finest metal musicians, with Dionize himself fronting the band on guitar and lead vocals.

Dionize is an established musician in New Zealand and Australia from being the lead singer & guitarist of Black Alpine for almost a decade. He has also played bass in a thrash metal and hard rock bands, and drums for a glam metal band.

Dionize is a shortened version of the name Dionysus - The Greek God of wine, partying and general debauchery.

It was in the spring of 2021 that the three Frenchmen Ludo, Laurent and Fred decided to explore an even darker and more tormented side to their then current music. This power-trio from the Toulon-area is proud to produce a loud and evil sound! Emerging out of the remnants of the bands Maniac (death metal) and Tom Is Fat (noise rock), Azken Auzi combines doom & sludge metal, with also some dark / black metal and more atmospheric passages. Rapidly things took form, one composition and concert after another, until it was decided to record a first demo single “I Hate You”. Because of the many very positive reactions, they went into the studio for more days to complete a full album, their debut-cd “Azken Auzi”.

SHADOW WITCH - Tell Me (official single) /// ARGONAUTA Records

Argonauta Records 2024-03-11 | 2024 should be one helluva year for Shadow Witch, given the potency of their upcoming fourth release, “Eschaton (The End Of All Things)”, coming on ARGONAUTA Records.

[Band info courtesy of David LaMay] Those already familiar with the band's signature mix of dark 70's hard rock, doom, stoner, and hints of proto-punk will absolutely not be disappointed, but all is not as it was before.
This time around, a great many nuances from the past are brought to the fore, and this is certainly what should be considered their most dynamic, and, dare I say, accessible effort yet. The catchy hooks that were once reigned in are now literally everywhere, and the choruses, also plentiful, are absolutely huge, with the latter often carrying a strong gospel flavoring. The dark grooves of old sound quite comfortable sharing time with the sunlight freshly peeking through the band's oft-drawn curtains. This new album is denser than the others, and Lundy delivers what I'd say is his most varied, colorful, and soulful vocals to date. No easy feat.
It's obvious, at least to this listener, that Shadow Witch wanted a new, perhaps intentionally unexpected infusion of something adventurous, and they have proven themselves more than up to the sizable task on this fourth trip to the studio.
This is a remarkable listen, from start to finish.

Need more proof? Check out the lead-off single “Tell Me” to get a tasty little nibble of what's going on with the band in the present. Its AC/DC-influenced anthemic intro and subsequent uptempo groove is not to be denied, just.... enjoyed:
