Restoring and upgrading the legendary Southcom SC-130, designated as the LV 407 in the Finnish Army. In Finland, the "LV" stands for Lähetinvastaanotin (Transceiver), making the LV 407.
This tactical HF workhorse has been optimized for modern Ham Radio use.
🛠️ Technical Upgrades:
• Frequency Stability: Installed a new 12.697 MHz crystal (HC-50/U, 22 pF, ±10 ppm) for precise SSB BFO alignment. Can be ordered here krystaly.cz
• Audio Warmth Mod: * Upgraded C169, C172, C185, and C190 from 2.2 µF to 10 µF to significantly boost bass response.
• Modified C174 (compressor timing) to 10 µF for smoother, more natural modulation.
• Power Supply: Replaced undersized 16V capacitors with a high-grade 1000 µF / 35V unit for better safety margins.
• RF Calibration: Adjusted the ALC (C436) and drive levels for a clean 15-18W PEP output.
For those looking to dive deeper, there is a wealth of technical information and additional modifications available on various Finnish forums, where this radio has a very active community. You can find detailed threads here:

⚠️ DISCLAIMER:
These modifications are shared for educational and entertainment purposes only. I do not guarantee specific results and I am not responsible for any damage to your equipment; vintage electronics can be unpredictable, so I encourage you to experiment at your own risk.
That being said, experimentation is the heart of Ham Radio! If you know of any other mods, tips, or tricks for this unit, I would love for you to share them in the comments so we can all keep learning together.
