We sent our Gastro Obscura foods editor to St. George in South Carolina, which celebrates the World Grits Festival, a three-day festival that celebrates all things grits (a food made from a dish of boiled cornmeal). The crown jewel of the festival is the Rolling in the Grits contest, where contestants dive into a grits-filled pool and collect as much grits as they can in 10 seconds. But what is it like to compete? Gastro Obscura foods editor, Sam O’Brien went on a quest on this episode of Atlas Obscura Tries to find out.
