We recently welcomed Don Slepian to Soundtoys HQ for an intimate performance and conversation as part of our Signals series.

Slepian has been exploring the possibilities of electronic music since long before most of its current vocabulary existed. An American composer, performer, and sound designer, his early work at Bell Labs placed him at the intersection of music and emerging digital technology. In the decades since, he has developed a singular approach to live electronic performance, combining improvisation, real-time synthesis, custom instruments, and immersive sound.

Watching that work unfold in our space was something special. Don is not simply a pioneer of electronic music, but an artist who has remained relentlessly curious about what electronic instruments can do—and, more importantly, what they can express.

Signals is an ongoing performance series at Soundtoys HQ in Burlington, Vermont, dedicated to artists working at the edges of music, improvisation, sound, and technology. Each performance is followed by a conversation and audience Q&A, creating a rare opportunity to hear not only the work, but the ideas and processes behind it.

It was an honor to have Don join us. Follow Don’s work through his website (https://donslepian.com), Bandcamp (donslepiannumero.bandcamp.com/music), and Instagram (instagram.com/don_slepian).
