Naokis Retro Corner | Sound deadening my rack cabinet! @NaokisRC | Uploaded July 2020 | Updated October 2024, 3 hours ago.
Decided to try something out. The whole thing made a heck of a lot of noise when moving it or doing anything with it, so I'm using sound deadening pads which are used to go inside of car doors when being replaced to reduce vibrations on sheet metal. I'd hope it might also bring the volume down when the server is running by way of not being amplified by the rack. Whilst it hasn't done that, or not that I notice at least, it has made working on it a lot more quieter for sure.
I'm not worried about heat build up as my components generate little heat and the pads do not absorb heat or block off any airflow so thermals should respond the same.
