I have just discovered that there is a special animation of the cobwebs burning down when Raziel slashes them with a torch. This seems to be the method of opening the sounding pipes when Raziel returned to the Silenced Cathedral.

There were 9 sounding pipes in total, the last one had no cobweb unlike the others.
