Don't think my eyes have found their peace with sleep!
Since you departed, they've been at odds, you see.
I, too, was loved, once, a secret to keep,
But yours was a direct strike, a blow to me!
Did you lie, then, right before my sight?
When will the time you promised, finally cease?
By the heart's own calendar, burning bright,
Each breath I draw is counted as a day's release...
To the sacred kerchief you gave, my soul's embrace,
While inner torment flows, a bitter stream,
Niagara, that mighty waterfall's grace,
Beside my tears, seems but a tranquil dream!
However much you torment, I'll not curse,
May you laugh heartily in both worlds, I pray...
With you, even hell is a reward, not worse,
Without you, heaven itself is exile's way!
Don't think my eyes have found their peace with sleep!
Since you departed, they've been at odds, you see.
