Would I have let this parting take its hold,
Had I known how much pain it would bring?
Had I known the world would turn so cold,
Had I known it would shrink, this tiny thing?
That single spark that left my tongue to fly,
Had I known it would burn into a blaze.
Had I known this heartache that makes me sigh,
Was woven from your absence through these days.
Would I not have yielded to your harsh decree,
Had I known silence held a greater worth?
Would I have let you turn and walk from me,
Had I known your anger would birth a silent dearth?
Had I known my face would wear autumn's guise,
My soul, a weeping pomegranate deep inside.
Had I known my room, a frozen, chilling prize,
My bed, a snowy waste where I now hide.
Would I have welcomed this estrangement's start,
Had I known it would prove this hard to face?
Had I known it's darker than a dungeon's heart,
Had I known it's tighter than a confined space....
Would I have let this parting take its hold,
Had I known how much pain it would bring?
