Anyone who has been in deliverance ministry paired with deep inner healing ministry has probably encountered a person's soul alter, soul fracture, or soul fragment, collectively known as “parts,” at some point during sessions. These “parts” are human personalities carrying deep emotional pain that are clearly not demonic or the person's normal personality (the core).
Many times, these personalities are younger in age and are expressing extreme pain, anxiety, fear, or anguish.
The words alter, fractures, and fragments (parts) are actually psychology terms that ministers have appropriated to help better explain this type of ministry.
They are part of a person's soul, created to protect the individual from the pains and turmoil experienced by an individual during an extreme trauma.
I'll go through some of the types of traumas known to create parts later in this teaching.
Are alters and fractures in the Bible?
Psalms 34:18 NASB
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Psalms 147:3 NASB
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
Isaiah 61:1 NASB (Luke 4:17-18)
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners
Brokenhearted: Hebrew word Šābur and Shâbar.
- Šābur means an injury by fracture.
- Shâbar means break into pieces or shattered.
