In many parts of Europe, people have a fan running non-stop just to get through the heatwave 🥵
Turns out our astronaut Sophie Adenot has fans on her mind too, 400km up on the ISS. Except up there, they're not about staying cool. Here's what she had to say: "Considering the ongoing heatwave across Europe, many of you are probably getting used to the sound of fans at home. In microgravity, fans aren't just about comfort – they're essential. Find out why in this video!"
Because aboard the Space Station, air doesn't move on its own, and without a fan pushing it along, the air an astronaut breathes out could just build up around their face while they sleep.
So next time your fan's working overtime at home, remember: down here it's comfort, up there it's survival.
