A: I made it
Q: How long did it take?
A: I didn't have any footage to edit for 2 days when I was helping goose edit the lotuspro video because he didn't record any video/audio yet. So I decided to learn some keyboard PCB designing. It took me 3 days to make the file.
In total this took about 30 days to make, 24 of it was waiting for parts to arrive.
Q: How much did this cost?
A: Too much... Well, the minimum order made things quite expensive, so was the acrylic cutting service (would've been cheaper if I bought my own acrylic and was cutting a shit ton of these). I have 1000 screws, 200 resistors and etc. what do I do with so many of them
Q: Will you sell this?
A: Nah
Other notes:
Rubber feet are missing because... I forgot to buy them. LOL
For a first prototype, I'm glad it even works honestly, I was expecting it to not considering chris ordered 4 different prototypes (maybe 5 at this point since he received another one a few weeks back) and none of them work.
Though realistically, 4 different prototypes and they're not working? That's impressive(ly incompetent)
I have some tolerance issues with the case (it's a little too tight around the PCB) but that can be fixed with some sandpaper. If I want to make it a little more official, I'll just edit the files I used for this in the next rendition (if ever)
In-key RGB LEDs are not working. This is because the... footprints I used were weirdly mirrored for some reason, so the traces are completely wrong. I could do a hack job of wiring it to the correct spots manually, but I also made another mistake of connecting the in-key LEDs to a separate pin from the underglow LEDs (yeah, QMK doesn't support more than one pin RGB LED output). This can be fixed by also wiring the in-key LEDs to the end of the underglow LEDs and then trying to write an RGB matrix software side. I could try it when I have free time again.
Alternatively, at least theoretically it checks out in my head right now, I could set two pins for RGB if I wrote my own firmware. I'll consider it... in my free time.
Other notes is that I haven't written anything to change the RGB mode just yet. I also would like to add VIA support.
The LEDs at the bottom seem a little too far from the edges, I thought the center would be good enough for diffusion but it doesn't seem to be the case (although literally the case is clear, so light diffusion is not good in the first place).
I have quite the number of things to fix for the second prototype, but luckily these are quite minor and chances are, the next prototype would be 'final' at least hardware side. (I wonder if I should use 4 LEDs at the corners instead of 2 in the middle?)
I guess in the next rendition, I'd like the USB port to be flush with the case too. Just gotta streeeeetch that USB port I guess
