Another reason why Sony's MicroMV camcorder tape format was a failure: it cannot transfer video digitally to and from standard DV components (MiniDV & Digital8) even though it uses the same i.Link / FireWire cables and connections. The DV device will recognize the connection (showing "DV IN" on its display), but that's as far as you get due to the incompatibility in video formats.
