In this video, I compare the Sony FX5 and Sony FX3 to see which compact Cinema Line camera makes the most sense for filmmakers.

The FX3 has been one of Sony’s most popular cameras for documentary, commercial and run-and-gun productions, but the FX5 introduces some major upgrades. Including open-gate recording, internal X-OCN LT, triple base ISO, waveforms, false colour, improved stabilisation and 32-bit float audio support.

I break down the differences in image quality, size, ergonomics, recording formats, monitoring tools, audio, stabilisation and overall workflow. More importantly, I look at whether these upgrades are genuinely useful in real-world filmmaking and whether FX3 owners should consider upgrading.
