It’s a new lens day! I just bought the @SonyAlphaUniverse FE PZ 16-35mm f/4.0 lens for my Sony A7S3 and soon the @sonycine FX5. I picked this lens out because it allows me to get a bit of a wider image for when I want it, and with the Clear Image Zoom feature, I can get to about 53mm.
While it’s not as far as my Sony 20-70mm f/4 can go, I can always digitally punch into a video if I really needed to. I can’t go wider. Plus, there have been quite a few moments while traveling and going to events where I wish I could go a bit wider.
I landed on this particular lens because it has the same filter thread size as my 20-70mm, so I can use it on both, and don’t have to buy new filters, and it manages to be even smaller and lighter than my 20-70mm. This is always a consideration for me when I’m traveling.
I also don’t care about f/2.8. It makes lenses way bigger, heavier, and more expensive, and I’m usually shooting in f/5-5.6 anyways since I’m often filming products. I need to see more than just the corner of a phone. 😂 And with the A7S3 and FX3, I don’t often run into issues with being able to get a good image in the dark. They’re low-light beasts!
I’m excited to use this lens on my upcoming trips to Shenzhen, China! We shall see how I like it on the field!
