João Pernambuco (actually born as João Teixeira Guimarães) was a Brazilian musician, composer and guitarist, who lived from 1883-1947. This piece is one of his most famous Choros and could be translated to "Sounds of the Bells".
This year I played some concerts for children, where we "travelled" to different parts of the world to find a lost melody. So I wanted to tell the children about Brazil and the way they celebrate Christmas. The most funny and also interesting thing for us here in Austria is, that in Brazil it is summer time during Christmas - so obviously people are dancing wildly to Brazilian music (and I guess they also hear the "Sounds of the Bells") and some colourful blinking lights. ;-)
Today the sun is shining in Austria and the weather is quiet warm - much warmer than the days before. So now - I want to wish you a very, merry Christmas and happy holidays with this special tune - wherever you are!

João Pernambuco (geboren als João Teixeira Guimarães) war ein brasilianischer Musiker, Komponist und Gitarrist. Er lebte von 1883-1947. Dieses Stück ist eines seiner bekanntesten Werke - ein Choro, das übersetzt "Glockenspiel" oder "Klänge der Glocken" heißen könnte.
Dieses Jahr habe ich einige Konzerte für Kinder gespielt, in denen wir zu verschiedenen Teilen der Welt reisten, um eine verlorene Melodie wieder zu finden. Also wollte ich den Kinder über Brasilien erzählen, wie man dort Weihnachten feiert und welche Musik man dort hört. Ein sehr lustiger und interessanter Fakt für uns hier ist, dass in Brasilien Sommer ist zur Weihnachtszeit - natürlich tanzen deshalb die Menschen fröhlich und wild am Weihnachtsabend zu Musik (vielleicht auch zu "Klängen der Glocken") und bunt blinkenden Lichtern. :-)
Die Sonne scheint heute hier bei uns in Österreich und das Wetter ist wärmer als die letzten Tage. Nun wünsche ich euch mit diesen speziellen, rhythmischen Klängen frohe Weihnachten und besinnliche Feiertage!
