Sonic Unleashed (released in 2008) is an action-adventure platformer in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. The game follows Sonic as he embarks on a global adventure to stop Dr. Eggman, who has unleashed a catastrophic force that shattered the planet into pieces. This event causes the planet to be split into several continents, with each part experiencing its own unique environment and challenges.
At the beginning of the game, Dr. Eggman activates a powerful device called the *Eggmanland* machine, which uses the energy of the *Chaos Emeralds* to shatter the planet. This event also causes Sonic to be transformed into a werehog—an altered, more powerful version of himself with enhanced strength but slower speed. Sonic must now find the scattered pieces of the *Chaos Emeralds* to restore balance to the planet and revert to his regular form.
Throughout the game, Sonic travels through different regions of the world, from lush jungles to icy mountains, and even ancient ruins. As Sonic, players can speed through stages during the day in fast-paced platforming levels, while at night, Sonic transforms into the werehog, where he fights enemies in slower, combat-focused sections.
Sonic is joined by his friends, including Tails, Amy, and Chip, a mysterious creature who assists him in his journey and helps restore the *Chaos Emeralds*. Along the way, Sonic learns that the force responsible for shattering the world is an ancient entity known as *Dark Gaia*, and he must defeat this powerful being to save the planet and restore peace.
In the end, after defeating Eggman and Dark Gaia, Sonic successfully restores the world, and the planet is brought back together, returning everything to normal.
