In this episode Sonic & chip (Now controlling the Gaia Colossus) take on phase 1 of the final boss which is Dark Gaia.

While chip stuns Dark Gaia momentarily, Sonic must go through speed sections at blazing fast speeds in order to further attack the gaia colussus & survive.
