Done with some Mega Man Java ports, now onto some Sonic ones! Here is Sonic the Hedgehog Parts 1&2, the 1st part being done by iFone and the 2nd part being done by Glu Mobile.
And man, I can see why Sonic Genesis GBA used these ports as a base for whatever reason. The Java & GBA ports have a near identical title screen, and even the MIDI music from these Java ports is probably what they ported over for the GBA port, too! I would say the same for the physics, but eh... the physics in the Java ports feel much better than the abysmal GBA port, but that ain't saying a lot to be honest.
But anyways, they separated this port into 2 parts, which is odd compared to the Mega Man ports I've played where it contained mostly all of the levels from the original games, but I guess it makes sense considering Sonic 1 has 6 zones with 3 acts, compared to the Mega Man games being 1 level per robot master. And Chaos Emeralds are also easy to collect in this port, too! Since the Special Stages couldn't be ported over (possibly due to technical limitations), they instead just give you the Chaos Emerald immediately. I wasn't able to get all the Chaos Emeralds in Part 2 unfortunately, since getting them in Scrap Brain is impossible for me (you weren't even allowed to go into Special Stages in Scrap Brain in the original anyways).
So yeah, I didn't have a whole lot to say about this port. It does sorta have it's frustrating moments, but at least it's far more bearable than Sonic Genesis GBA as a port. Still don't like the physics that much, but at least they aren't that abysmal, unlike you know what.
