Back in the 90s there were a number of interesting Sonic spinoff's but one of the best was the range of "choose your own adventure" books.
And the one that started it all was called Metal City Mayhem.

If you don't know a choose your own adventure book is one that you hope around the book as you make choices, win and loose fights and use various items that you might have found.
It allows for a number of unique plays with a multiple endings.
