This is a demonstration (demo) of the arcade-style gameplay in the "Sonic the Hedgehog" golden age pentad ("1", "CD", "2", "3 & Knuckles", and "Mania (Plus)"; in chronological story order, confirmed by "Origins (Plus*)").

About the title, I decided that there has to be a standout term for the five "Sonic the Hedgehog" games (originally released on the Sega Genesis, Sega CD, and Sega Saturn if "Sonic Mania (Plus)" was actually released on that hardware) shown in this video. To avoid the problematic term 'classic', 'golden age' (and/or 'golden era') is the term I use for these five "Sonic the Hedgehog" games. In video gaming, the term 'golden age' (and 'vintage', despite its original meaning) not only denotes arcade-style gameplay (limited lives/continues, score carryover, rankings, time limits, et cetera), but it denotes consistency, quality, and enduring excellence. As for the word 'pentad', it means a group or set of five (it can also refer to a series of five). With enough research, I came up with the name 'Golden Age Pentad', strictly for these five "Sonic the Hedgehog" games.
For the first four golden age "Sonic" games, I play the 16-bit versions. I am well aware of the many ways to play them nowadays. But I chose to play the 16-bit versions for the original experience (no Spin Dash in the 1991 game, no oval Spin Dash in the 1993 game, et cetera). As for the soundtrack of "Sonic the Hedgehog CD", it is just personal preference (I grew up in the US, so I chose the US soundtrack); I rarely have a favorite something when I play video games (which is a good thing for me nowadays). For the fifth and final golden age "Sonic" game, "Sonic Mania (Plus)", I showcase Sonic's Drop Dash ability as much as possible, at least early on in the first zone, and I showcase Tails carrying Sonic when flying without the need for a second controller, at least in the latter half of the first zone.

Here is the simple story arc in chronological order, only sticking to the golden age "Sonic the Hedgehog" games.
Green Hill arc:

This is officially confirmed by the 2022 (and 2023*) collection. The outro is also an advertisement for the standalone neo-original hybrid 2023 game, in an attempt to appeal to a broad audience. The base collection is up to ver. 1.5.0 in physical form, making it the final static original-era product (the 2023 content is digital only, meaning it actually does not exist in physical form).

Level starting:
After finishing and revisiting the previous world as Donkey, he becomes pretty much useless. Diddy is faster than Donkey, so its time to switch to him. In the GBA version, like Donkey, Diddy is required to get 101%. Also, Diddy will be used for the majority of this game.
Letter O approaching:
Winky is completely useless, so he is skipped. The jumping physics are quite different from the SFC version. The hit detection is also a little more generous. Because of those little changes, the Kritter can be stomped on by jumping up immediately without having to fall down to stomp on that enemy. With this trick, the letter O can be collected without Winky.
Star Barrel:
Touch the Star Barrel. Itll show why as the level goes on.
Expresso Token:
Normally, getting the Expresso Token would require Winky. But in the GBA version, its possible to get it without him. In a normal 101% speedrun, this level is the best time to get the Expresso Token.
Expresso Bonus:
Collecting 600 tokens in order to get a picture is required to get 101%.
Back to Star Barrel:
See why the Star Barrel was touched? Because after the Token Bonus, it sends the player back to the checkpoint. Otherwise, it would send the player back to the beginning of the level. Thankfully, the checkpoint isnt that far back.
Level ending:
Finishing a level as Diddy is important. In fact, finishing a world as Diddy is important. In order to get a picture, a world (Monkey Mines) has to be finished by Diddy. Afterwards, that world has to be revisited to add 1% more to 101%.
Be sure to go to Cranky after this level.
In order to get 101% in the Game Boy Advance version, every Bonus Room has to be found. Not only that, but every picture (as well as the K-O-N-G letters) has to be collected.")

Level starting:
Normally, in the SFC version, cartwheeling off of the 2nd walkway platform wouldnt be enough to get on the fueled-moving platform. This would be the case for the GBA version. But since the physics are different, cartwheeling off of the 2nd walkway platform is enough to get on the fueled-moving platform.
Bonus Room #1 skipping:
Skipping Bonus Room #1 is faster because it sets up for revisiting the level in order to do the Start+Select trick, thus skipping the waiting game.
After 7th fuel:
Use the metal poles holding the walkway platform at the bottom where the letter O was to determine when to cartwheel off of the fueled-moving platform and make that long jump. Then cartwheel off of the walkway platform into the Auto-Fire Barrel. Sometimes cartwheeling into the Auto-Fire Barrel isnt enough, so make sure to jump to avoid falling into the abyss. Stomping that Kritter after all of that should no problem. In the SFC version, none of this is possible because of how cartwheeling works.
19th fuel approaching:
This section can actually cause trouble. In order to jump at the highest height without getting hit by the Zinger at the top, anticipate the wasps movement pattern.
Shortcut approaching:
If it wasnt already obvious, the K-O-N-G letters are required to get 101%. So the shortcut is skipped to get the letter G.
Bonus Room #1:
The level is revisited to enter Bonus Room #1 and do the Start+Select trick, thus skipping the waiting game.

Very Gnawty:
Very Gnawty is different from the SFC version. Every time he is hit, he jumps high. There is RNG involved. The RNG is on how long the invincibility frames last after he lands. Sometimes he doesnt have any invincibility frames after he lands, sometimes he does. Those invincibility frames can last up to 1 second. Those random invincibility frames can be very messy.
Boss ending:
Finishing a boss as Donkey is important. In fact, finishing a world as Donkey is important. In order to get a picture, a world (Kongo Jungle) has to be finished by Donkey. Afterwards, that world has to be revisited to add 1% more to 101%.
Be sure to revisit Kongo Jungle after defeating the boss.

This is a tool-assisted superplay of the 999% match/goal on a cute character (Jigglypuff) in Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64.

This is more of a what if type of match/goal on cute characters (Yoshi, Pikachu, Kirby, and Jigglypuff). Ive done the goal back in 2015, with the help of a certain person (watch any video in the link above). But I was curious to see how it would play out in a match like this. Granted, a non-TAS of this type of match wont ever be perfect, but this should definitely explain how I wanted the match/goal, if my previous videos of the match/goal didnt explain it clear enough.

Now, in this type of match, I try to do what I was thinking of back then (from 2011 to 2015). I choose Mario for obvious reasons. Most of the rules are the same. However, there is one change I had to make.
1st set of rules:
- 7 stocks.
- No items.
- Default costume/color only for player 1s character, any costume/color for player 2s character.
- First attack always comes from the cute character.
- Shield breaking is disallowed.
- Player 2s cute character cannot get KOd at all.
- Player 2s cute character is allowed to taunt, periodically too.
- Crowd must cheer for the cute character at a very high percent damage.
2nd set of rules:
- Up smash that character for the KO endurance.
- When that moves connect, that character must be on ground at a specific spot without crouching or DIing up, or else its instant KO.
3rd set of rules:
- Crowd cheers have to go uninterrupted.
- Mario cannot get KOd on second to last stock until the cute character is at 999% damage.
- Mario has to be tortured on the last stock by the cute character.
- Star KO must occur on the last stock.
For the 2nd set of rules, I ended up having to remove the up tilt on that character for the KO endurance. So, unfortunately, that was a mistake I made back in 2015 on doing the match/goal. Everything else is mostly the same. But here is the main reason why I did a TAS on this type of match. I was thinking more on where the percentage of the cute character would end up on stocks (from 1 to 5), as well as the crowd cheering for the cute character at that percentage (on stock 5).
Percentages on stocks 1 to 5 ended up being in the following ranges:
- Stock 1 = 161%-171% damage
- Stock 2 = 328%-338% damage
- Stock 3 = 494%-504% damage
- Stock 4 = 661%-671% damage
- Stock 5 = within 700% damage upon crowd cheering, 827%-837% damage
So, yeah, that answers my curiosity.
The directional influence (DI) was not used, except on stock 7 when necessary. I wanted to make it easier on myself for this TAS.
Also, I try to get the cute character to use every move on Mario, connecting at least once, especially on stock 6, no matter how useful or useless the move is, with a bit of messing around on stock 6.
And about the RNG on reeling (spinning animation at 100% damage and above), most of it was manipulated, especially on stock 7. The biggest example is Marios down special, where the 14th hit does a meteor smash on the grounded character. I didnt want any reeling from Mario or the cute character, but in some cases (notably Mario), I didnt have a choice.

EXTRA TUTORIAL: To do a handstand while hanging on the ledge, hold down the Walk button, then press Forward. To do a swan dive, hold down the Walk button, then press Jump immediately followed by Forward. To do a somersault dive during a swan dive, press the Roll button. To air-roll, do either a running jump, standing jump, or a backwards jump, then press the Roll button. To shimmy on the monkey bars, hold down the Walk button, then press Left or Right. To swing on the rope, press and hold the Sprint button. To jump off of the rope, hold down the Sprint button, then press the Jump button.
Changes & new features after Tomb Raider III:
- Laras design is significantly different.
- Sound pitch on nearly everything still varies, but it is only random when that sound occurs.
- Unskippable in-game cutscenes are introduced.
- Inventory system from the previous Tomb Raider games has been changed.
- Level select from the previous Tomb Raider games (PlayStation version) is removed for save files.
- Most action animations from the previous Tomb Raider games have been changed.
- Looking and regular climbing from the previous Tomb Raider games are now a bit delayed.
- Canceling the camera angles (Look button) from the previous Tomb Raider games is no longer a thing.
- Selecting the Pistols (while on default) from the previous Tomb Raider games now makes Lara draw them.
- Targeting system (outrange lock-on tactic) from the previous Tomb Raider games has been changed.
- Ammo counter HUD from the previous Tomb Raider games no longer displays.
- Spike damage behavior (international only) and design from the previous Tomb Raider games are changed.
- Heat damage behavior from the previous Tomb Raider games is no longer a thing.
- Object-pushing behavior from the previous Tomb Raider games has been changed.
- Enemies now disappear after they die, which was not a thing in the previous Tomb Raider games.
- Skies now move, which was not a thing in the previous Tomb Raider games.
- Crouching while running or sprinting is now a thing, along with turning in crouch position.
- Sprinting when the sprint meter is not full is now a thing.
- Corner-shimmying ability is introduced.
- Ropes and poles are introduced.
- Poisonous hazards are still a thing, but they now carry over to the next level when poisoned.
- Flares still last for 30 seconds, but the design is different.
- Medipack design is significantly different.
- Camera on Laras position is still shifted slightly to the left, but it is now slightly zoomed out.
- The energy and breath meters still display the same from Tomb Raider III, but upon entering the next level (or reloading at that amount of energy), the energy meter does not display when it is already full, and the depleting breath meter carries over.
FUN FACT 1: This is the only Tomb Raider game (in the 1st era) where Lara does not get disarmed.
