This score attack is mostly about rings more so than combos. In fact, this beats the previous Ring record of 672 by a staggering 148!

There are still a couple of interesting combos however. Mostly by virtue of the sand falls not being considered ground, and therefore not breaking combos.

For example at 1:30 there is a combo of 4 enemies, using the invincibility to take out the first sandworm, bouncing off the skorp, and grabbing the 2 sandworms in the second sand fall before ever touching ground.

There's another combo of 4 in a similar manner at 4:02, and a few other smaller ones throughout.

The best one though is at 7:07. Getting both of the first two enemies here before diving into the sand looks the coolest, but is also much harder than it looks. The control of cycles here and avoid despawns is really tricky, but feels very good. Not to mention the final pop to turn it into a 5.

So let's look at why this smashes previous ring records. To start with - massive time pressure in this stage to get everything. But there's also a few tricks I use that allow me to explore multiple routes.

It starts off at 0:45 - gliding isn't an option past 50 rings, but allow getting these rings by starting the glide before 50, and making it back to the wall with that same glide.

One of the most pivotal and difficult technique is first shown at 2:30 - the slide climb. This requires nice momentum into 2 frame perfect jumps. If you press jump any time after just hitting the slide, you won't get a jump that makes distance up it, as you'll be sent back down. And if you ever jump before hitting the slide, you'll turn into Hyper Knux and the run is over.

The next big one is at 5:00, and it is the most diffcult. The first part here is controlling the cycles of the sandworms and the platform so that I can get a max jump bounce to make it up to the area above. Then I have a look at where the moving crusher is above, and time more frame perfect jumps, while keeping awareness of that crusher cycle so I can sneak in under it.

There are a few other techniques used as well - like at 5:50, but I think previous runs may have been getting to these areas as well. It's such a big difference that it is hard to tell.

As huge of an improvement as this is, this is still not perfect. You'll notice towards the end I deliberately ignore a few enemies/areas, simply because there isn't enough time for everything. Which also shows just how much time pressure there is, you can't get everything so every move matters.

This beats the previous Score record of 70,200 by 23,000.
