This starts off focusing on Anakin and Padme's relationship, and then quickly focuses on how Anakin started becoming friends with the Sith Lord, also showing how he changed into Darth Vader. The Doctor is part of the council, seeing as there are other species apart of the council it only seems fitting that a Time Lord should also be included. He learns of Anakin turning to the dark side and tells Padme, who doesn't believe him. The Doctor and Obi-Wan go to confront Anakin to see if this rumor is in fact true, in which it is.
Traveling to the future, the Doctors sees that Anakin's son is affected by this...everything is affected by Anakin turning into Darth Vader. In an attempt to change history (which is risky) the Doctor leaves. However, his mission to change Anakin's history is failed and while he never returns, Obi-Wan raises Luke and speaks of the Doctor often...telling him that he will set balance to the Force.
When Luke asks Yoda who he is, Yoda says that he knows him. Yoda then takes him to see the Doctor. Luke tells the Doctor of how Obi-Wan says that he will bring balance to the force, and the Doctor admits that he wouldn't.
The Doctor leaves, yet again. A while later Luke sees the TARDIS while he is on the Hoth system, but Luke ignores it. Later that night Luke is stranded in the cold and the Doctor comes to save him. From then on the Doctor keeps a close watch on Luke, knowing soon he'll end up facing Darth Vader. Vader tells Luke that he is his Father. Luke is frustrated that the Doctor lied about who Darth Vader really was. The Doctor then decides to leave, making Luke even more frustrated that yet again he is going to walk out on something he was supposed to fix in the first place.
The Doctor decides to stay and help Luke, but Luke is still questioning the Doctor's real motives. Why did he never come back if he wasn't able to change Anakin's past?
