Isolated to spotty pockets of rain with hit-or-miss lightning strikes are present in some western, central, & northern areas, but much clearer skies are present in the east plains, as most are starting off more seasonable. Plenty of yesterday's storms have brought in more low-level moisture across most of the region as gusty northwesterly winds are present in parts of the Rio Grande Valley to the east slopes of the Sangre de Cristo mountains, while breezy southeasterly winds are present in the far-east plains.
Cooler air is present than yesterday, but most are still starting off at least slightly milder than average. Northern areas are mostly starting off in the high 40s to the 60s. Elsewhere to the south, air temperatures are mostly ranging from around 50° to the low 70s.
High temperatures will still mostly be around average in the western majority of the region with some thunderstorms, but temperatures will still mostly be at least a bit above average elsewhere. Most areas from eastern New Mexico to the Pecos River Valley area will range from the 80s to near 100° from north-northwest to south-southeast from high to low elevation. The northern higher elevations will mostly range from the high 50s to the 60s, while the northern valley floors to western and central areas will mostly range from the upper 70s to 90s.
Isolated to some scattered thunderstorms will form across most of the mountains to nearby areas through a vast majority of northwestern areas through more parts of the Central Mountains, some local parts of the Rio Grande Valley to more eastern areas, and some local parts of southeastern New Mexico. Storms are capable of producing torrential downpours, hail, erratic wind gusts, and frequent lightning strikes.
Surrounding the Monsoon high pressure ridge in the southern part of the country, the recent jet stream drop partially over the region, with southwesterly winds aloft, is allowing for moisture to remain over the region. However, as the high pressure starts to strengthen well off to the east while slowly drifting back to the west, fewer storms and higher temperatures will return for most of the week.
