Somatic studies is an emerging area of scholarly and therapeutic interest that involves the lived experience of the body. As more individuals seek out therapists who have training and experience in working on a somatic level, there is a growing need to foster a psychology that is rooted in the body to help ground people in their bodies, to address trauma, and to perpetuate healing and recovery.

The lived experience of the body is central to what it means to be human, acknowledges Program Chair, Dr. Rae Johnson, and there are depths of soul in our experience of being human that need to be cultivated.
