Hate crimes against the LGBTQ+ community, especially those who are transgender, rise significantly every year. In 2008, Angie Zapata, a transgender woman was murdered after an online date turned deadly. Allen Ray Andrade killed her after waiting in her apartment to confront her. 10 years prior, Matthew Shepard was killed and left on a fence for being gay and that same year James Byrd Jr was tortured and killed for being a black male. Crimes against those living and being who they are need to be stopped. These crimes may be solved but there are many that are not.
