Items used:

Metcal MC500 soldering station with MX-H2-UF iron ('standard' one is fine too) and STTC-144 tip
Loctite MFR301 liquid flux
Kester no-clean 0.5mm (0.020") leaded solder

A good magnifying setup (like a Vision Engineering Mantis stereoscope) makes things easier, but I did this just with ~47 year old eyeballs only. A video camera or even a cellphone with a macro mode could be used in a pinch if you need a better look.
