If your solar yard light, street light, security light is not living up to expectations; if it quits before the night is over, maybe you're not getting the most out of your solar panel, and the batteries are not getting charged. I've seen many failed solar lights, from home security lights, to traffic warning signs, not working because they were mis-oriented or just "shaded a little".
"Center" USA has 5-6 solar equivalent hours per day. Pretty much equal on both sides of the sun being straight overhead. You need to get batteries fully charged in that time.
