NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory captured this massive solar flare on February 24, 2014 -- the strongest flare of the year so far and one of the strongest of the current solar cycle. The massive X4.9-class solar flare erupted from an active sunspot, called AR1990, at 6:49 p.m. CST and is seen in this NASA video. I've added Earth so that you can see just how massive this flare was. Thankfully, it will not negatively impact Earth.
