This video is a preview of a hack of Sonic 2 for the Mega Drive, which supports more Zones in 2-player mode, a brand new special stage, and some other goodies filled with goodness!
This project started off with E-122-Psi, many people have pondered wanting to put the other Zones into two-player mode, some have done even mild proof of concepts, but E-122-Psi (working with Zeta_Null) pushed further and didn't give up, he was soon joined by top programmer and pixel designer MoDule who started modifying some of the engine to make the water levels possible.
MarkeyJester (myself) and Cinossu soon jumped on board, Cinossu with his menu concepts and fantastic visual planning and attention to detail and programming skills, and Markey to compliment MoDule in forming the new H-blank system and title cards. Soon the team formed, and a Discord channel followed.
The team was then joined by layout and object function expert D.A. Garden for guidance and advice, and MainMemory the level format expert who has had her fair share of successful hacks, for her technical support. While E-122-Psi and Zeta_Null make plentiful small fixes to refine the hack in its stages, with their artistic additions, adding MoDule and Cinossu's artistic skills to the mix, we now have one powerful team....
Sock Team!
In this video, we're showing off Chemical Plant Zone in 2-player mode, with proper water swapping, none of that basic transfer crap. You might also notice the stage doesn't lag very much, myself and MoDule have been working extremely hard to optimise the engine just short of restructuring the format. You'll notice some tiny graphical changes and improvements here and there, done by the artists, and some neat little features, menus, and screens.
Though it's just the beginning, Cinossu has created some newer menus than what you see in the video, but they're not ready for show-casing yet! So you'll have to settle for the basic one we have there d=
