For the unsigned artist, the industry has never been better. The stories of how great the music industry USED to be isnt true for unsigned artists. The internet has democratized the music industry, giving unsigned greater access, greater opportunity, and greater distribution than ever. Though not a perfect meritocracy, the internet has made the music industry more so, which should be encouraging to artists who believe there is an audience for their art.
