Being a leader and a manager are two very different things; a lot of people are promoted into Lead roles without proper knowledge about what it means, how it will affect them, and how to proceed. There are very human reactions to this kind of change in role, but not a lot of resources on how to deal with them.
In this 2025 session highlight, Kat Stoica Ostenfeld (Lead Technical Writer, Epic Games) will share some things they have learned based on their personal experiences from being a team lead and people manager in the tech industry, including coaching other new Leads into their roles. If you are a new-ish or aspiring Lead, this talk will help you prepare for the mental and emotional debit that comes with the role, and provide tips for handling them.
