After the massive success of 2023's Super Mario Bros. Movie, a sequel was practically inevitable, and so it wasn't surprising when Nintendo announced that a sequel would come out in 2026. With today's Nintendo Direct coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the Mario franchise, it would only make sense that we would get an update on Mario Movie 2 during the Direct.
Something that I don't think anyone expected though, was for Mario Movie 2 to be based on the beloved Super Mario Galaxy duology for the Wii. Although the first movie was largely successful, it admittedly could've been a lot better, so here's hoping this sequel lives up to the hype.
