I recently took this old weather station until off our roof. Took it apart - just because - but I not sure how the anemometer works. Please comment if you know the answer :)

02:50 Wind direction measured by brightness level. Also dependent on the distance of each LED from the detector to get 16 distinct wind directions (?)
