I bet you all thought I was going cannon-crazy, hmmm? Well, don't worry. Cannon is getting a bit boring for my tastes.

Story //

As a child, Tidus was moody and a bit awkward socially. Aerith saw him sitting on the streets, both orphans, and she greeted him with a big smile. Tidus just stared at her. She grabbed his hand and dragged him away to play.
Nine years later, Tidus revisits the church they would always play at. He is surprised when he sees a beautiful young woman who looks exactly like an older Aerith. Tidus calls out her name enthusiastically. Aerith looks up and sees Tidus. She becomes dizzy and passes out. Tidus yells her name and goes to catch her. While he is studying her face, he sees a black rash-like thing on her left-cheek. Aerith gasps and pulls away from him. When she turns around again, she has bandaged her face. (Don't you dare laugh at my Band-Aid.) She greets him more properly by embracing him. She smiles at Tidus, and he looks at her sadly, because he can't stand to see her faking happiness for him while she's dying. Aerith sees that he notices, and looks away.

Tidus sees that Aerith is still wearing the ribbon that he gave to her for her eighth birthday, and this makes him strangely happy. He realizes that he is in love with Aerith, and he has always been in love with Aerith. Unfortunately, every day, Aerith's Geostigma spreads further, and there is nothing he can do about it.

Aerith once again grows dizzy and faints. Tidus catches her and holds her in his despair.

Tidus remembers how he and Aerith got separated in the first place. Shortly after her eighth birthday, Tidus went to go meet Aerith in the church, and was surprised and even a bit worried when she wasn't there. He remembers how lost he felt and he remembers her face and the ribbon.

Growing very desperate to save Aerith's life, even if it is the last thing he does, Tidus goes to a powerful demon and asks for it to cure her and all the others of Geostigma. But in order to do that, the demon demands for something in exchange. It senses that Tidus is in love, and therefore, it wants Tidus' heart. Tidus agrees and waits for his doom. The demon seizes his heart and Tidus falls to the ground as it starts to rain healing water, dying slowly and all alone. Meanwhile, Aerith senses something is happening and her Geostigma. She suddenly realizes that Tidus is dying and she runs out of the church, determined to find Tidus.

When she finally finds him, he is lying motionless on the floor. Aerith kneels down beside him and shakes Tidus back and forth. There is no response from him. Tears start rolling down her face and she buries her face in Tidus' shoulder.

However, Tidus is not dead or alive, but conscious. He raises his face. Struggling, he puts his arm around Aerith. Aerith looks up, surprised and crying, and Tidus smiles at her. She smiles at him through her tears and kisses him.

Without a heart, Tidus cannot live like a human, but because of his unselfish act and Aerith's love for him he becomes her Guardian Angel and watches over her for the rest of their lives.
