This was neat to catch on film! Here's Shadow, our Black Rat Snake, eating a rat while he's shedding. You can see where he's already shed his head and it's peeling back from the top of his head.

Typically snakes won't eat when they're "in the blue", or in just about to shed, but we wanted to offer Shadow food today to see if he'd eat anyway. That was a good idea, because clearly he was hungry! If you watch until the end, you'll see Shadow reset his jaw, and snakes do this after they've eaten. Good job, Shadow!
