The SC-8850 is a small upgrade to the SC-88Pro, featuring a stereo version of the 88Pro piano and new stereo strings. The 88Pro solo brasses, clarinet and oboe now have velocity-based sample switching on the 8850 MAP. Other new sounds include a new harpsichord, clavi, music box, tubular bell, santur, harmonica, acoustic bass, sitar and some new organ variations. Most of these sounds were getting a little long in the tooth, but they're aren't used often enough for this to be a big deal. It also has a few new poorly programmed ethnic instruments and drums many people didn't like. Most of the new presets are filler SFX and ethnic percussion.
The 8850 is infamous for playing MIDIs from other Sound Canvases (even the 88Pro) incorrectly. If you're interested on listening to other people's work, I strongly recommend you to get the 88Pro instead.
