This star is pretty much the same as the intended route. Some of the higher up starchips can be snagged by shaking with the rock mushroom, as it gives lurches you upward a little bit.
On the second planet, I take extra caution to avoid the coins. Upon returning to Starship Mario, coins you end the level with are tallied, forcing a menuing/meta A press. Of course, we want to avoid this, either by just avoiding coins or by dying and respawning past them.
Also, turns out Sorbetti is free if you learn him.
Anyway, it looks like Purplesun crouch spins against the tree, which gives him a little bit of height. Using this height, he then spins once as to not suddenly slide off the steep slope of snow surrounding the sterile sapling that Sorbetti serendipitously spared smashing. (Well, not really serendipitously, I intentionally moved around him in such a way to make sure he never crushed these trees). Then by falling back down and sliding backward off this small slope (remember, the bros move faster backward), he quickly moves in the direction of the star while. More importantly, he is also still airborne and able to do an a-button-enhanced airspin (which is higher than a normal airspin. This is considered a 0.5x A press, as the A button is held all the way from the star selection screen until the dialogue boxes upon returning to Starship Mario.) and grab the star. This stage-specific trick is only doable as Luigi as of now.

For some reason, creating a cloud and falling backward off it (without touching down on it) lets you got really far backward. It seems you have to be traveling perpendicular from the camera though.
As you may have expected, this trick was discovered by our boy Annoying. What a guy.")

Ignore the weird movement from 2:50 to 3:07. I was trying to launch from the spring onto Yoshis Egg and start a triple bounce onto the small brown planet. I was unable to get it, sadly, and overwrote all my savestates before 2:58, hence the going back and forth from the spring to the grassy area.
This trick would have saved the second of three required damage boosts, therefore saving the death in this stage.")

This star has one of the most interesting saves in the whole game, and shoutouts to Purplesun for proving it to be possible.
I spend the first half of the stage getting collectibles and using the abundance of cloud flowers to get around: 30 coins for the luma and about 30 for starbits for enemy manipulation later on. The coins are surprisingly easier to come by than the starbits; if there were a little fewer starbits from either the cymbal or Star Piece Cluster (yeah apparently they have a name https://www.mariowiki.com/Star_Piece_Cluster), this level might require a forced death in the run.
A small thing worth noting, it looks like I bumped the galoomba in midair at 1:35, not sure how I managed to do that, especially while ground-pounding.
Anyway, the real magic starts on the Lumas planet. One of the silver stars is just far enough anyway that 3 clouds cant cover it. Even with all 3 clouds, it just isnt enough to cross get there and back. Luckily, there are 3 paragoombas on this planet, just waiting to get manipulated. By shooting these paragoombas with starbits, Purp knocks them down onto the poisonous floor, which they can survive somehow (maybe its their little shoes). By continually dazing them, he manages to get them close enough to chain a triple bounce off of. This trick can cover a lot of horizontal distance, and an airspin provides enough height to get back onto the cloud level.
Purp also uses turnaround spins to get across gaps that are too far for a normal airspin. By walking off a ledge while facing the opposite direction, you can travel much further (as both Mario and Luigi accelerate much faster when traveling backward. This movement quirk is quite helpful for the ABC.
Another small thing worth noting is the cloud bridge at 5:38. (I think I just coined that term, but its pretty self-explanatory). By making multiple clouds at the same elevation, you can walk across them with needing to jump or airspin. It might not sound like much, but its a pretty handy way to grab something (like another cloud flower) while maximizing distance and spawnable clouds.")
