I was playing Super Mario Bros 2, US version, and I did a glitch.
Here's how to do it:
1) Get a jar.
2) throw it on a spot where there's a vegetable popping out of the ground
3) enter the door and leave again
4) while leaving, hit the button that allows you to pick up stuff in the ground.
5) Ta-dah!

To Get rid of it:
1) get another Jar
2) go into the Subspace
3) Throw it.
You might have to hold down, then throw it.
Also, I don't know if it sticks with you in the next level, because the only way I have beaten the level I was playin' in the video, was at the warp pipe, and to go in it, you have to remove it.
