Designed by Eugene Jarvis and Mark Turmell, Smash T.V. dropped players into a violent, futuristic TV game show set in the ultra-dystopian year of 1999. Contestants fought off endless waves of mutoids, cyborgs, and deadly bosses for fame, fortune, and an array of luxurious household appliances.
The intense, driving soundtrack and famous voice line clips—including "I'd buy that for a dollar!" and "Big money! Big prizes!"—were composed and designed by Paul Heitsch. Powered by the Williams Y-Unit hardware with a dedicated Yamaha YM2151 FM chip and OKI MSM6295 sampler, the audio delivered an unrelenting cybernetic adrenaline rush that defined early 90s arcade action.
