Today I take a look at a new fake antivirus called Smart Guard Protection. This appears to be the successor to the Antivirus Security Pro rogue that has been widely distributed over the past few months. In the video I demonstrate how the rogue works, and two different removal methods. I recommend using the first method, however if you are unable to complete any of the steps, move on to method 2. For both methods you may have to manually delete the shortcuts Smart Guard Protection places on your desktop.
METHOD 1
1. Open Internet Explorer
2. Navigate to malwarebytes.org/products/chameleon . Click "Continue Unprotected" to bypass the alert.
3. Download Chameleon and save the ZIP file.
4. Extract the files
5. Start by opening the CHM file. If you are unable to open it, begin opening the files until a Command Prompt window stays open.
6. Press any key. Chameleon will automatically download, install, and update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, kill any malicious processes running on your computer, and begin a Quick Scan.
7. When the scan is complete, click Remove Selected and reboot.
METHOD 2
1. In Smart Guard Protection, click "Buy Full Edition"
2. On the payment window, click "I already have an activation key"
3. In the prompt, type AA39754E-216A8FF3 and click OK
4. Open Internet Explorer and download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from downloads.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download-exe.php
5. Install MBAM
6. Run a Quick Scan
7. Remove selected
8. Reboot
