In this episode of 1 Min PCB Design Review, Tech Consultant Zach Peterson examines a multipurpose STM32 board. Zach uncovers a series of small but meaningful errors — including a mislabeled DAC marked as an ADC, silkscreen text at 0.5mm height that many fabrication houses won't even print, and thermal relief connections on vias that are actually working against the design's heat dissipation goals.
These are exactly the kinds of issues that slip through without a careful eye: a wrong label here, an undersized font there, and a thermal via strategy that leaves a power component without an effective ground path. Zach walks through each fix — from correcting the component label and swapping in polarized connectors, to adjusting global design rules to eliminate unnecessary thermals and adding vias directly in or near the thermal pad for proper heat transfer.
