DeepseaOddities | "Slowdown" Sound - Deepsea Oddities [Lost Episode] @DeepseaOddities | Uploaded August 2020 | Updated October 2024, 4 hours ago.
Original date of production: 26 April 2016
"Slowdown" is a sound recorded on May 19, 1997, in the Equatorial Pacific Ocean by the NOAA. The source of the sound was initially a mystery, however was later determined to have most likely been the sound of an ice sheet moving over land. Nonetheless, the sound is somewhat haunting, and reminds people of just how little understood much of the natural phenomena in deep oceans can be.

This is a previously unreleased mini-segment created during the 'classic era' of Deepsea Oddities in 2016. It was intended as a piece of a larger compilation that never saw completion, hence the short runtime and lack of a proper intro or outro. More than four years later, I rediscovered this clip in my old files and have felt compelled to share it for a couple reasons-- so that it doesn't go to waste, and out of a feeling of sentimentality for the aesthetic of our old videos, right down to everything being green and the all around clunky feel to the edit. This clip has been left completely unaltered from its original date of production, so I hope it gives you all the same feeling of deja vu it gave me! ~LRJ
